Resource Teachers Who Do Not Give Grades
Individual Users — You may use Jupiter for free to check your students' grades (but you can see grades only from teachers who have paid licenses). Sign up for your own account like any other teacher. You need one or more classes, which you might want to name "Resource". You will then add your students to your resource classes.
Group Account — As admin, you must create at least one class for each resource teacher. Typically you'll name the course "Resource", then add their students to their classes. On the screen, give them only the "V" permission to "View grades from other teachers", not the "T" permission for "Teacher can give grades" or any of the admin permissions. They will have their own gradebooks, like any other teacher, and they may take roll if needed, but it will not let them enter any grades. Resource Class — If resource teachers give grades for their own Resource class, you must set them up like a regular teacher, and they do need a paid license.
Mainstream Class — If you want a resource teacher to be able to enter grades into the regular teacher's gradebook, you may make the resource teacher a Co-teacher of that class. See Team Teaching. (Note, they'll have access to the full class, not just the special ed students.)
Resources teachers should click the "Info" tab in their gradebooks and select to see grades, assignments, and comments for students in their regular classes. And on the screen they can see a list of current homework for each student. They can see only the students in their own resource classes (i.e., they cannot lookup other students). Since they can lookup grades anytime, it might not be necessary for the regular teachers to fill out weekly progress reports. To modify grades for a special ed. student, the regular teacher may create a new assignment with the "Input" menu set to "Adjust Percents", then enter a score like "+10%" to raise the student's grade by 10 percent. In other words, rather than lowering the grade scale, you raise their grade.
Alternatively, the regular teacher may simply override grades for individual students at the end of the grading period. Admins can type notes for teachers to see any special needs and accommodations required for individual students. Admins go to the screen in Admin Mode, select a student, change the menu to "Special Needs & Medical", then type notes in the "Special Needs" box.
Then teachers can click the "Info" tab and select to see these notes for all their students.
Admins can designate which students have IEP's (Individualized Education Plan) and 504 Plans (U.S. Rehabilitation Act). Look for the checkboxes on the screen in Admin Mode. (These checkboxes can be , or they may be different if using Jupiter SIS with state reporting.) Note you cannot enter the actual plans online, but you can summarize the Special Needs as described above. |
